The Church Outside

Thinking about God outside the box.

The Castelli Romani

Just outside of Rome toward the southeast are the Castelli Romani.  These Roman Castle towns serve as bedroom communities to many who commute to work in Rome. Outside of Rome there are lakes and forests that are perfect for weekend hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping, and seasonal festivities. Many Romans come here to relax, enjoy great food, and recharge for the week. Many families have chosen these cities close to Rome to raise their families.  We have lived in Grottaferrata and Rocca Priora and these are just two of 17 charming communities tied together by a web of roads and beautiful views overlooking Rome.  We are 15 minutes from an Ikea as you head into Rome yet minutes from this beautiful lake (pictured above) in the outside of Rome.

The Church Outside

It is in this context that we have started The Church Outside.  We want church to be a refreshing change to what many know as church in Italy.  Most importantly, we want church to be as close as possible to the original recipe found in Scripture. The early church experienced God through clear teaching about Jesus, powerful servant leadership, sacrificial giving, and spirit filled prayer. In this maze of complex Christianity, we cut through millennia of attempted recipes by going back to the original found in Scriptures. The Church Outside exists to bring the Word of God to everyday life. We start at creation and go to the cross.
